Ikea Bliss

There are something like seven wonders of the world. I can't even begin to name them. I am certain though, that one of them is Ikea. If it's not, then I lobby that we expand the list to eight.

Misty and I are meeting up December 26th at Ikea to shop for Soiree. It is quite possible that the driving force behind starting this business was so we would have a reason to spend an entire day shopping at Ikea. I know, I know, it's alot to invest of our time and money just to create a need to spend one full day at Ikea, but if you don't understand, then I venture to say, you've never been to Ikea.

At any rate, I am already in the DFW area for Christmas. Misty is making the drive by herself early Saturday. We will cram carefully pack everything we can get our grubby hands on into her HHR so she can then turn right back around and make a 10 hour round trip back to Tulsa with the goods. In all seriousness, pray for Misty. That's a lot of driving in one day.

Misty is on vacation the week after Christmas so we are 85% certain we can get the shop 95% done. (I have to give myself percentage goals to stay focused if you haven't noticed)

The space is looking awesome! The Jupiter jump is up. Our kids have tested it out for all of your kids and they give it the big thumbs-up. We have already booked several parties and can't wait to book yours. Give us a call or shoot us an email and we'll put you on our books too.

One last note: We are going to host a birthday party once per quarter for a child in need. Could be a special needs child, a family who is struggling financially, or some other need you know about. We'd like your help on what we should call this project and who you know that might qualify as a child in need. The party will be free to the chosen family.

In the wise words of my business partner Misty..."Love, Peace and Chicken Grease Y'all"

Kerosene and Polyurethane

Soiree is in a building that is around 80 years old I suppose. The space is beautiful but as of right now we don't have heat. An 80 year old building with no heat when it's 20 degrees outside makes for a chilly night of work. (ONG is coming on Wednesday so we'll be toasty by then)

Misty and I put on several layers and lit the kerosene heater while we applied polyurethane to the counter tops and cabinets. Let me just say it's a good thing we live very near Soiree because driving after two hours of that concoction was not such a swift move.

Things are looking fantastic! The counter tops are pretty wild, but we think the wild against the historic brick walls and tin ceiling is the perfect combination. This week we will finish the kitchen complete with new cabinet doors that have been salvaged from an old greenhouse here in town. I guess you can say we are green, but really just thrifty, the doors were free! They were actually the windows on the greenhouse. We are going to clean them up and hinge them to the cabinets. The glass will allow you to see inside of the cabinets that we've ModPodged scrapbook pages to.

Tonight as we worked we brainstormed some ideas for an Open House in January. I actually think we'll be ready by mid January...that might just be the kerosene/poly mix talking though.

Progress

We are chugging along at Soiree. Today was a day of great progress. Misty currently works a full time job so when she has a day off we are able to double-time it.

She showed up this morning with her tool box which I thought was quite impressive.

Misty spent the day cutting up and pulling out the nasty unattractive carpet from what will be the dressing room. Once she had the carpet and the pad up, she moved on to the joyful job of pulling out thousands of staples from the wood floor. GO MISTY! You are my hero.

I worked in the kitchen while Cannon was a nuisance big helper. He and I removed all of the cabinet doors and lined the inside of the cabinets with some quirky paper.

All in all a great day for Soiree!

Don't forget we are booking parties now so call or email us today to plan your perfect party.

Opening Soon!

We could not be more excited to bring the first of it's kind party business to Collinsville. We plan to open in February, 2010, but things are moving so quickly, there is a possibility we will open in January.

Initially we will offer full service themed birthday parties such as...

Princess
Rock Star
Pirate
Western
Sports
Trains
and more...

What does "full service" mean? Simply put...

All you have to do is show up!

We will handle as much or as little of the party as you'd like. Want us to invite your guests? We do that. Want us to bring the cake, set up the room according to your theme choice, direct the children through game time, present opening time, and cake time? We do all of that too. Would you like us to keep track of who brought what gift so we can send out the thank you cards? Guess what...We even do that!

Every child will leave with a memory of the best party they've ever been to and a goodie bag full of treats.

The best part for you is

No Clean Up!

Our unique and wonderful space, which boasts over 1800 sq ft, will be available for not only birthday parties, but also for play dates.

By Summer of 2010 we expect to be able to accommodate other types of parties like wedding receptions, business luncheons, holiday parties, and family reunions. Pretty much, if you need a space Soiree is that all inclusive meeting area. We will be able to offer catering with a full wait staff or a buffet style set-up.

We are currently booking parties for February so call today to schedule your party.
